I've had candy canes on my mind today, and decided to start a thread collecting all the candy cane decorating ideas I come across so I'll have them ready for the Christmas season.
First, the absolutely gorgeous Candy Cane Christmas Tree Cupcakes (http://www.bakerella.com/candy-cane-christmas-tree-cupcakes/) from Bakerella:

Then there's the crushed candy cane look (http://partycupcakeideas.com/christmas-candy-cane-cupcake/) to add sparkle:

And the candy cane-inspired red and white striped cupcake (http://bakingbites.com/2008/12/candy-cane-christmas-cupcakes/) itself:

I really like this Candy Cane Cupcakes with striped icing (http://jackiw.blogspot.com/2008/12/candy-cane-cupcakes.html) idea, though I'd make wide bold red icing stripes:

You could always top a cupcake with a Candy Cane Meringue (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchens/candy-cane-meringues-recipe/index.html), a chunk of Peppermint Bark (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/peppermint-bark-recipe-recipe/index.html), or a Peppermint Pinwheel Cookie (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/chocolate-peppermint-pinwheel-cookies-recipe4/index.html).

A sleigh made of candy canes (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/sandra-lee/santas-sleigh-favors-recipe/index.html) perched atop a cupcake:

Candy cane hearts (http://www.skiptomylou.org/2009/01/21/candy-cane-hearts/), either directly on top of the cupcake or on a stick:

There is more to candy canes than just enjoying their minty taste. You can decorate your home inside out for the holidays with candy canes. You had awesome creations here !

For the first one they probably painted some gel food coloring stripes on the inside of the piping bag of frosting.

I have newly become obsessed with baking cupcakes. I made some Candy Cane Cupcakes last week.. this is how I decorated them:

I think they came out nice! There definitely some fine tuning I'd do if I made them again!

Nice and sparkly, Cupcaker! Your original image was too big, so I took the liberty of linking to the one on your blog. Hope that's ok.
A few days ago I saw a lovely cupcake where the sides had been rolled in crushed candy canes. Wish I'd saved the link, but hopefully everyone can picture what I mean.

I love the idea of the trees. It has given me an idea of what to do with my leftover PhotoFrost sheets. The ornaments you used I could punch out with a hole punch and i may even be able to wrap a gift with a leftover sheet. Thanks for the inspiration. Christmas is just around the corner and I am getting ready for it.
