I was watching the Food network tonight, and one of the video clips about upcoming shows featured bacon cupcakes. Yecch! I instantly thought, yet they were being promoted as the next big thing. A search on google resulted in a list of varients, apparently the idea of frosted cupcakes incorporating bacon did not originate with or was not limited to (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGLL_enUS318US304&q=bacon+cupcakes), an upcoming Food network show. Everyone knows that cupcakes aren't diet food, the frosting laden with fat and sugar. But somehow, adding bacon and all it's fat seems to be excessive, unappetizing, and potentially nauseating. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those people who is paranoid about eating things with fat, although I probably should be more careful about my cholesterol. I like bacon, in BLTs, with fried eggs, and to liven up a salad. Yet the new fad of adding bacon to things that are fatty or sweet or both (witness the bacon chocolate bars and bacon ice cream that have recently emerged) is just too much, and this isn't just American puritanism  talking, I just don't think they would taste good, or be worth the potential gastrointestinal distress.
