How do you get to have that kind of lip these have?

How do you ice the cupcake and what tip do you use?

In my experience, you need a big star tip like this one:

To make the design, start at the edge of the cupcake and swirl it toward the center until you've covered the cupcake with one layer of frosting. Then, add a second, smaller layer on top by doing the same thing but starting closer to the center. To finish, make sure you pull the piping bag up at the last second to create that peak in the middle. Hope that helps a little!

Most people use the Wilton 1M for swirls but I prefer the Ateco 855 - it's hard to find but much larger so you get much fuller swirls. Some sites such as pretty witty cakes sell them but don't reference the brand or number.

The best technique I've found is to start at the middle then move the tip to the outer edge - go round the outside edge of the cake, then do another one or two
smaller circles on top.
